DiveTracker SPORT

Design Information

Both the transmitter and the receiver are housed in the same type of cylinder shaped PVC housing with a Lexan end cap. The size of the housing is 2.5” D x 5.1” L.

Depth Rating:

The depth rating of the DiveTracker Sport is 1000 feet. Destructive testing found that first signs of damage occur at 1000 PSI, followed by collapse of the housing at 1200 PSI (about 2600 feet). The mode of failure is a gradual buckling of the housing in the area of the power knob, leading to a small rupture in the plastic and consequent flooding.

Air Voids:

The only designed-in void is the main electronics and battery cavity, visinble when removing the end cap. The potted sonar transducer at the bottom of the cup shaped housing is a solid design, with no voids.

  • PVC housing with polycarbonate (Lexan) end-cap.

  • Stainless steel fasteners.

  • FR4 fiberglass printed circuit board with copper traces and tin plating.

  • LZT ceramic (lead zirconate titanate) sonar transducer.

  • Epoxy potting material for sonar transducer.

  • Copper wires teflon or PVC jacket (22AWG, total length approx. 10 inch).

  • Electronic components: standard semiconductor devices, tantalum, ceramic and electrolytic capacitors, resistors and LED. The main materials are silicon, thermoplastics, aluminum, gold, tin and probably lead. All materials in minor amounts up to a few gram.

  • Alkaline battery. The transmitter unit uses six AA cells, and the receiver a 9V cell.

Batteries are user replaceable.
